Historic Working Homestead
System:
- 24 Radiators split into 3 separately controlled zones & Domestic Hot Water.
- A Rayburn Solid Fuel Kitchen Range, a J-Line Wetback Log Burner and backed up by a 50kWh Mistral Oil Boiler.
- Superheat 450L Domestic Hot Water Cylinder heated with an internal 10kWh Boiler Coil (& 3kWh element); 300L Buffer tank
& Fully Open Vented via an 80L Copper Header Tank.
- Piped in Copper & John Guest Pex Speedfit.
Operation:
- Buffer tank is Gravity Fed from the Rayburn &/or the Fire.
- Each Zone is controlled via a Heatmiser Neo Stat.
- In the event of Thermostats or Cylinder calling for heat but buffer tank is cold the Oil boiler cuts in to top the system up, As the Range and fire heat up the boiler goes to sleep and allows the solid fuel to run the system.
- If the buffer tank begins to overheat the system overrides the Thermostats and dumps Excess heat to the Radiator Zones.
Note:
- A small cupboard (2mx1m) on the 1st Floor was utilized as a small plant room, the distance from the Rayburn location made
it very difficult to get the required pipe fall to allow for adequate Thermosyphon. This was hampered with the addition of
Steel beams (to carry the weight of Water) and a cavity slider behind the unit. Correct inclines were achieved with the addition of a 250mm plinth under the Cylinder & Buffer tank.
